Job Summary Description

Crew physician coordinates and provides routine, general medical care for the crew of the ship, consults on care of surgical inpatients and referrals, and coordinates emergency medical response team. Minimum commitment 6 months but, Long-term (2-year) commitment preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to)
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.• Provide weekday medical consultations and treatment for ill crew, students, translators, and day volunteers during crew clinic hours.
• Provide or arrange for regular check-ups for crew (i.e. well baby checks, routine physicals, pap smears and gynecological exams for female crew, hearing tests for engine room and deck workers, etc.).
• Perform minor surgery under local anesthetic as needed.
• Oversee activities of immunization nurse, pharmacist, x-ray technician, and lab technicians.
• Review medical portion of crew applications.
• Arrange consultations as needed for crew who have medical problems that are not manageable by facilities on board.
• Oversee Emergency Stretcher Team and emergency medical response.
• Participate in Duty Physician Roster to provide after-hours service to crew and ward.
• Work in conjunction with the Captain, Chief Steward, and Chief Engineer to ensure health and safety of the crew.
• Coordinate with Hospital Care Physician/Provider to oversee general health of ward patients and pre-operative patients. In absence of hospital care physician/provider, evaluate charts of the incoming admissions for the day, and pass on any queries to the Admission Nurses.
• Attend Team Leader and Quality Assurance and Improvement Meetings.
• Attend and participate in all devotions and Hospital functions as needed.
• Assist in planning for future outreaches.
• Recruit new Hospital crew by speaking at local HealthCare meetings, visiting hospitals.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills.
• Fluent in English.
• Must have superior relational skills and outstanding Christian character.
• Has healthy affirming relationships and exhibits integrity in professional and personal life.
• Adheres to established budgeting procedures and practices the highest standards of fiscal control.
• Ability to synthesize material from multiple sources into a coherent and accurate presentation.
• Ability to respond to requests and obtain information in a timely manner.
• Able to be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and accurate, with a desire to achieve personal, biblical, and organizational goals.

Education and Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.

• M.D. or D.O. with current license
• General practitioner or internal medicine background beneficial.
